Problems with Oracle Password Changer? Suggestions for improvement? This is the place to ask your question

I downloaded and tested it a few times with an 11.2 Oracle client connecting to a 10.2.0.4 database and it worked as expected – no problems and very easy to use. It’s just a single executable, no Windows installation required.  I posted the same review and gave you 5 starts on CNET too.

Thanks for a nice free tool!

Hi I’ve downloded this tool and got it to work on an Oracle 9 database.  My problem is that it doesn’t work on an Oracle 11.1.0.7 database.  It keeps telling me invalid username/password.  I’ve tried it many times and the account I am trying to change hasn’t locked so it must be complaining about the username.  The user is on the database so I don’t know what the problem is.  OPWC is version 1.0.5.
     Thanks for any help,  Gorm

Starting as of Oracle 11g, you can specify if case sensitive passwords are allowed or not.
Default this is enabled, so this might be your problem.
Before oracle 11g it didn’t matter if you put the password in upper or lowercase bu thu has changed.

OPWC should be able to handle this new oracle 11g behavior

It isn’t a case sensitivity problem because after 5 attempts the users login would have locked if the username was correct and the password wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.  My supervisor asked me to find a password changer that we would be willing to pay for.  All I have found is this freeware version.   Does anybody know of a password changer we could purchase?
        Thanks Gorm

Sorry, missed this reply apparently. Did you find a different tool?
Normally, OPWC should do the trick, if it doesn’t we also want to find out why :)
If it’s an option for you, we can generate a debug version of OPWC and see what’s causing the culprit?

    Hello,

I’ve downloaded this tool but I can’t seem to get it to work.  I’m a Oracle DBA and I’ve created a test account to test out this utility.  When open the tool, it prompts me to enter database, username, current and new passwords.  The question that I have it if I enter the ORACLE_SID value, how does the tool find the database (eg. how does it know the host and port number).  Do I also need to install an  Oracle client inorder to use the Oracle Password Change tool?

    Kind regards,
    Richard

You indeed need to install an Oracle client. Either the full client, or Oracle instant client will do as well.
Oracle Password Changer uses the OCIChangePassword call from the OCI libraries

Where is the downloaded file? Either the download doesn’t work or the file is placed in an unknown folder.
